This summer I travelled through Switzerland on a family holiday. During this time the Cymru (Wales) women’s football team played at their first ever major championships. I hope you enjoy some of the snapshots from the Swiss tournament which documents and celebrates some of the Cymru fans and football team’s participation in the 2025 Euros.
A Launch on a Lake
Welsh language TV Channel S4C held an event on the Lake of Lucerne in advance of the Cymru women’s participation in Euro 2025.
Thanks to our friend Dee Green from Roath, Cardiff (now a Basel resident) for sending these two pictures – Dee with the Croeso sign and Liss Lloyd
Match Day in St.Gallen
I originally entitled this photo Ten Gallen Hats. However, after speaking to several people, only one had ever heard of the mythical Ten Gallon Hat worn by the cowboys in the Old American West. My survey should have told me to drop my title – but I liked it enough to keep it – and yes, on inspection there are closer to 20 than 10 – but I still like my photo title.
A stylish Swiss store (aren’t they all) in St. Gallen added some Welsh Chic to their window display by featuring a classic Cymru bucket hat.
Some of our Swiss Family (we like to call them Swelsh) added to the Red Wall.
Cymru v France, 9 July
It wasn’t the result that we wanted, but the pride, passion and raw emotion defined the Welsh performance!
Final score: Cymru 1 France 4
Oh No!! The End of the Paper Trail?
As a Welsh football fan who saw my first international game (v Romania) at Ninian Park in 1970, it was disappointing to find that there were no paper tickets which fans could retain as souvenirs of Euro ‘25.
When the men’s team qualified for the 2016 Euros, for many supporters the tournament tickets where symbolic of our participation and years of support.
The Dragon is branded
After the train we caught a tram which was promoting the Women’s Euros as it made its way over the Limmat River, close to the Lake of Zurich

One example of the progress women’s football has made was the St. Gallen Arena being chosen as a venue at the 2025 Euros.
FC St. Gallen is proclaimed to be the oldest club in continental Europe. When it was established as a men’s side in 1879, who could have imagined a crowd of nearly 16,000 welcoming two women’s teams onto the pitch?
Bis bald Schwiiz!
Amser i fynd adref (time to go home).
So after finally reaching the Finals, it’s time to pack away our 100% Cymru supporters shirts – at least until the next Welsh football adventure!
Fantastic photos! Wales football fans once again representing well in Europe!
Great pictures Mr L! Looks like Switzerland certainly embraced the tournament
Looks like a great trip!
